International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC) or Registered Lactation Consultants (RLC) have passed the International Board Certification Examination and recertify every 5 years. IBCLCs have the experience and skills necessary to help mothers breastfeed their babies in both routine and challenging situations. IBCLC services can include prenatal breastfeeding education; postpartum hospital, clinic, birth center, and office visits; home visits; educational literature; rental of hospital-grade electric breast pumps; and new mothers' support groups.
